usb 1-1.3: new high speed USB device number 5 using dwc_otg
The USB dongle is the only device attached, I session into the R-Pi using SSH. It has the same issue described in the forum - WLAN1 interface exists, but iwlist returns no AP. I am using an Airlink 101 USB adapter which uses RTL8187 chipset. I'm rather stumped at this point and would be thanful for any further suggestions. I did stop the wicd service and the results of testing were the same.Īlso, I did now try using a powered USB hub and the results (and kernel log error messages) were the same as when plugged in directly to the USB port on Pi.Īdditionally, I did these tests again with my other RTL8187 adapter (BlueProton BT3) and received same results. I do have wpa-supplicant installed and also wicd-daemon, wicd-curses & python-wicd. I do have firmware-realtek (0.28+squeeze1) installed but as far I can tell it includes nothing for the rtl8187 (or rtl818x family), so I was thinking this chipset doesn't need firmware loaded like others: I would see register read/write errors from the smsc95xx whenever running a utility like ifconfing, iwconfig or iwlist when the adapter was plugged in, similar to:Īpr 17 01:26:47 raspberrypi kernel: smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0: eth0: Failed to read register index 0x00000114 Sometimes they would eventually finish, but other times not until I physically removed the adapter at which point the hung utility would immediately return. The very odd thing is that often commands like iwlist and ifconfig would hang. My AP is now in WEP, but iwlist never returned any AP results: I was able to bring up wlan1 with ifconfig.
